Finally, the time has come! After 3 years of band history, a lot of sweat and even a few tears, the stoner rock formation "Honeygiant" is releasing their self-titled debut album. In 7 songs, the Viennese band offers deep insights into their minds. The song title "Sisyphus" already suggests that the lyrics often revolve around the more challenging aspects of life. The majority of the LP delves into this subject, while "Phantom Hammer" provides a powerful burst out of the negativity. "Division" takes you into abstract nightmare worlds and "Electric Ghost" doesn't shy away from shedding light on a toxic relationship. Heavy stoner riffs, atmospheric chords and hard drums run through the tracks.
All of this may well inspire listeners to reflect on the darker sides of life, to be open about them and support each other in coping. "Honeygiant" sets an example for this and ironically refers to itself as a self-help group.
The songs were created piece by piece in the band's rehearsal room in Vienna's 15th district. While the lyrics are mainly written by Wolfgang Steinbach, a large part of the instrumentals is created through a collaborative process. Jamming, collecting ideas and experimenting is the method. The ideas of former drummer Tim Peham also helped shape three of the songs.
The LP was produced, recorded and mixed in Mürzzuschlag by Niklas Lueger. The collaboration was a great experience, not only because of the quality of his work but also because of the friendship that connects him with "Honeygiant". He now works in Bristol with the renowned producer Ali Chant.
In the artwork, artist Christoph Kaderle (“Chrizao”) establishes the personification of the band’s name in the form of a fictional character. The giant consists of honey and is described as a curious, good-natured loner who, in his clumsiness, leaves a trail of destruction in his quest for companionship and meaning. He lives in a cycle of joyful anticipation and bitter disappointment, but never loses his childlike interest in his surroundings or his hope for fulfillment.
